So Congress started taking notice due to the complaints of their constituents. In 1970, they passed the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Many years ago, merchants wanted to offer their products and services to the populace, but realized there were a number of people who needed to “run a tab”.
They didn’t have ready cash to pay for the items they needed, mainly food and tools, clothing and toiletries because they were mostly farmers who only harvested their crops once per year. They had to wait until they sold their crop to pay their “tab”. The merchants needed to find a way to determine which people were likely to pay their “tab” at a future date, and which ones were less like to do so. Find out how they do it.
